|In honor of the holiday season and the upcoming new year, here is a statement from UChicago Maroons head coach, Mike McGrath.
Happy New Year!
The calendar year is coming to a close! Therefore, we would like to take a minute to not only thank you for all of the support this season, but take a look back at things so far, and give you a preview of what is to come!
The UChicago Maroons have played a total of 10 games, currently making them 7-3; four of these games have been at home while the other six were on the road. They took part in the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic in Baltimore and made a trip to the White House and Capitol during the trip. They also won their own UChicago tournament. They have scored an average of 72.6 points per game and won five of their seven victories by a double-digit margin.
During the first week of action, the Maroons made it onto D3hoops.com’s Top 25 list, coming in at 23. And by the end of week two they climbed the charts, making it to 17. On December 3, it was announced that junior Eric Robinson was one of 251 student-athletes nominated for the 2015 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams.
While the Maroons will play their first game of 2015 on January 3, January 10 will mark the start of conference play. UChicago will take on Washington at 3 p.m. that Saturday, with Rochester and Emory coming to Ratner the following weekend. These first three home UAA games will be huge as they attempt to win the conference title.
* As a reminder, alumni should be making plans for alumni weekend (Jan 30-Feb 1) with the major activities on Saturday afternoon. An email invitation will be coming in early January.
* Also, there are still a few days to get your 2014 donations to the basketball program at: http://alumniandfriends.uchicago.edu/makeagift
Happy holidays, here is to a wonderful 2015.
